So I arrived into Amman on Tuesday morning, to be greeted by a very excited MC and MCe team; and astounded at the efficiency of the immigration system that let my visa be stamped in - a record
5 minutes.Spent the day downtown - eating scrumptious Arabic food, having shisha on a balcony cafe, hanging out in a downtown coffeshop, climbing atleast 200 stairs..*gasp gasp* thanks to oks and momani for putting up with my "are we there yet/can we stop now" whining ;) The entire city of Amman is built on hills - and there are various levels and uphill and downhill turns - its quite enchanting and the landscape seems out of a story book. Pictures to come soooon!
What I find interesting is that the entire city has large portraits of the King and plenty of flags everywhere. Independence Day is coming up soon; so it will be cool to see how it is celebrated here! I had a short glimpse of that in Irbid yesterday, where the university was celebrating Independence Week.
I also went to Irbid yesterday - and met a bunch of members and the EB over a really nice lunch - they are a fantastic bunch of people and I am SOO looking forward to many more visits! Can't wait to meet members from Amman today!
Talking to members reminds me of how excited the first generation of AIESEC members in Pakistan were - but yet quite different in many ways in terms of their level of education and a general feeling of camaraderie. I haven't yet put my finger on it.
The weather here is unseasonably cold - even though it is the middle of May - and for someone like me who has just arrived from 35 Celsius weather with 70% humidity - this seems rather weird. In a nice way :P
In other news, I am quite like a lost sheep being herded around by the MC :P And like
Khamba - my culture shock is that I can't get used to the driver's seat being on the left. Or anything else that is left for that matter..
